Q.
How do I become a licensed Real Estate Representative in British
Columbia? |
A. You must qualify for licensing by taking the Real
Estate Trading Services Licensing Course, offered at UBC. The
course is a self-paced correspondence course comprised of twenty(20)
multiple choice assignments, and a three(3) hour multiple choice
final exam. You may register for the course at any time, and you
have one(1) year from the date of registration to complete the
course. Upon payment of the registration fee of $875, you will
be given the text book and study guide, and the rest is pretty
much up to you. It takes the average student over half of a year
to complete the assignments and be ready for the exam, so the
RealtyTutors program will enable you to be better prepared and
reduces the time that you would otherwise require for the
course.
Note that prior to writing the final exam, you should satisfy
the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) requirement. You may,
however, register for the course before you meet the LPI
requirement. See
www.realestate.ubc.ca for further details.
When you have successfully completed the Real Estate Trading
Services Licensing Course, through a Realty company you can then
apply to the Real Estate Council of British Columbia for
licensing as a Representative, restricted to sales.
Finally, you must take the Applied Real Estate Course from the
British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA). Once licensed,
you will have thirty(30) days to register for the course, and six(6)
months to complete it. The course is a five(5)-day, in class
course. It is a requirement for licensing, and a failure to
register for, and successful completion of the course will
result in license termination.
Once you have completed these steps, you will be licensed as a
Real Estate Representative, restricted to sales, and you will be
at the threshold of a fantastic career. |

Q. Why should I attend tutorials when the course is designed as
a self-paced correspondence course? |
|
A. 750 plus pages is a very daunting task to attempt on
your own. The time requirements are onerous on the candidate and
on average it will take a student around 7 to 9 months to
complete the course. Time is important to you and if you can
achieve your goal within 2 months, would you not want to? The
cost of this course can be written off as an expense when you
are licensed as a realtor. The time you save on the course means
you can begin to sell and make money on your commissioned sales
quicker! Time is money to you, and we respect that! Generally,
your first sales commission will cover the costs of this course.

Q. What happens if I
fail? |
|
A. This is a very intensive course and it demands a great
deal from candidates. Hard work, dedication and focused
intensity on the tutorial session will improve your chances of
passing immeasurably. We want to help you pass. At the end of
our regular classes, we have a 3-hour Mock Test. If the student
doesn't perform well enough in the Mock Test, the lecturer will
not
recommend any examination dates set soon after the test, to
reduce the eventual failure rate. Upon the result of the Mock,
the lecturer will be able to suggest any further study program.
However, there are instances where it’s a bad day at the exam,
not feeling well, did not sleep well the night before. There are
several reasons why one could fail. |
|
Please note that if you fail you will need to wait 90 days
before you can write the examination again! Should you wish to
re-enroll with RealtyTutors, there will be a 50% discount off
the course fee. |
